The Black-necked Crane in the Phobjikha Valley and the Crane Festival in November are true highlights of this exceptional Bhutanese immersion. Bhutan is one of the world's top ten biodiversity hotspots. Enjoy spectacular birds, stunning Himalayan scenery, and over a dozen species of fascinating mammals, including the endemic Golden Langur. Join our leader, Tandi Dorji, over the prayerflag-laden passes of Bhutan following roads that look out onto beautiful vistas in all directions. This shining Buddhist gem is a scenic paradise in November during the clear skies of autumn. Bhutan's altitudinal variations from lowlands to high passes will keep you guessing about the next surprise around the corner. Photogenic mammals and both resident and migrant birds will be encountered in these beautiful landscapes particularly with Dorji's expertise. The photography is superb. Also the Buddhist culture is more than a religion, integrated into all aspects of life in Bhutan, "the land of the peaceful dragon."

Bengal Tiger in India
Bengal Tiger

Explore the heart of central India and its wonderful wildlife reserves and national parks as we seek magnificent Tigers in action, as well as other mammals, both big and small, and many incredible birds. Begin with the amazing cervids, pythons, and waterbirds of Keoladeo Ghana National Park at Bharatpur, including many migrant birds from the north, then be captivated by the cultural marvels of the Taj Mahal, Orchha, and Khajuraho. Spend a glorious week in two famous Tiger reserves, Bandhargarh and Kanha national parks, the latter being where Kipling wrote The Jungle Book. Become immersed in the quest for Tiger while also enjoying other fantastic wildlife. Soak up the wonderful knowledge and hospitality of India's people while staying in lovely accommodations. By the end of the safari, we will have traveled by bus, four-wheel drive, boat, train, plane, and best of all by elephant!

Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros in India
Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros

Assam Extension: If Denali is the "Serengeti of North America" and the Pantanal is the "Serengeti of South America," then Kaziranga is the "Serengeti of Asia!" Coupled with Nameri National Park, a Tiger Reserve since 2000 and very well patrolled, these two gems of wealthy Assam will immerse us in some of Asia's best wild lands. Kaziranga on the south bank of the huge Brahmaputra River and Nameri on the wild side of the Bhorelli River both have special species not seen on the Central India safari that precedes this extension. Kaziranga is the only place where you can photograph the rare and endangered Great Indian One-horned Rhinoceros in the wild from an elephant's back! It is also the best park to see a herd of wild Asian Elephants. There will be new species of birds, including possibilities, such as the Ibisbill, White-winged Duck, and Blue-naped Pitta at Nameri. Enjoy watching and photographing the fascinating wildlife behavior that we will encounter.
