General Information

The 233-foot, 2142-ton Professor Molchanov was built in Finland during the 1980s for polar and oceanographic research. The comfortable outside cabins were refurbished in 1997, each with a desk and ample storage space. Cabins on Deck 3 have portholes, two lower berths and a washbasin with shared bathrooms located in the passageway. Cabins on Deck 4 and 5 have windows, two lower berths and private facilities. There are two larger cabins and one spacious suite on Deck 5, also with windows, lower berths and private facilities. The Suite has windows facing forward and also to the port side. The Professor Molchanov has a lounge and bar, small library, infirmary (there is a doctor on board), and a sauna. Meals prepared by an excellent European chef are served in two dining rooms, which we also use as lecture and video rooms. The large decks and the open navigation bridge provide good photography from the ship, as well as excellent places to watch for special wildlife. The ship has an ice rating equivalent to Lloyd's 100 1A. The ship is fully equipped with navigational and radio systems, as well as a passive stabilization system for rough weather. We will have five Zodiacs for landings and cruising in the ice. An outstanding staff will accompany you ashore. The Russian officers and crew are very experienced in Arctic waters and provide a very relaxed atmosphere onboard the Professor Molchanov. Our ship is a favorite among the people who have journeyed aboard her and the Russian officers and crew are wonderful.

Electrical Current and Outlets

110 and 220 volts available in most rooms. The electrical outlet sockets are the round two-prong European style, with at least one USA-style outlet per room. If you are coming from a country with a different system, bring a suitable outlet adapter and voltage converter.
