Northern Cloudforests, Iguazu Falls, Brazilian Amazon Basin, and the Pantanal Northern Cloudforests, Iguazu Falls, Brazilian Amazon Basin, and the Pantanal Within the towering mountains on the eastern slope of the Andes, we'll visit puna grassland and tropical montane cloudforests, known as Yungas (steep slopes). Then from the beautiful broadleaf forests of Iguazu Falls National Park, we'll head for Alta Floresta and boat to Rio Cristalino Lodge in a very pristine area of the Amazon Basin where many birds and primates and other mammals thrive. The grand finale is in the grassland and riparian woodlands of Brazil's Pantanal, also on the east side of the Andes. In this hot, dry season before the big rains, Pantanal wildlife is very concentrated. The rivers, marshes, lakes and streams that nourish these fabulous wildlife destinations will bring us many surprises and enjoyment, hopefully even Giant Anteater, Jaguar and Tapir. Everyday we'll be in a reserve or park enjoying natural beauty, beasts and birds! Argentina - Northwestern Wildlife
Quest for Rare Mammals and Birds Let us transport you high into the heart of the Andean Cordillera and down to the deepest forest of the Chaco lowlands to sample the superlative scenery and wildlife. The distinctive landscape of northwestern Argentina, with its jagged peaks and rivers that flow into the lowlands, creates complex and highly specialized zones of vegetation, which in turn support unique species of wildlife. The shy Maned Wolf, the elusive Brazilian Tapir, and the extraordinary Giant Anteater are a few examples of the amazing animals we hope to see. May is the perfect month to visit this region. The forests are still bright green and we'll enjoy sunny days and warm nights without the heat of summer in the lowlands. In the Chaco you will have your choice of the camping under the stars or staying at the lodge. Everyday we'll be in a reserve or park enjoying natural beauty, beasts, and birds with many splendid photo opportunities of both birds and mammals. Join us on this grand safari to some of the most remote areas of South America! Return to top home | current trips by region | current trips by date | site map | contact us |
